Longevity Diet While Breastfeeding

  • While breastfeeding, mothers should follow a healthy diet as it influences the quality of the milk the baby consumes.
  • For the first 6 months of breastfeeding only, increase daily caloric intake by 330-550 kcal, or 150 kcal for obese women.
  • Drink more water, consume greater amounts of omega 3, and make an effort to eat foods rich in vitamin C, folates, B vitamins, vitamin A, and if needed a daily supplement, especially if following a restricted diet (vegan or macrobiotic).
  • Be sure to consume enough amounts of vitamin B12 and fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K), calcium, iodine, zinc, and iron.
